Is it a sprain?

I was at work last friday and as I was going down a few steps, someone caught my attention so I turned back. When I turned around once more to continue down the stairs, I stepped weird, and I fell down. Immediately my ankle began to kill. my in about 20 minutes, it swelled up t twice the size. I went to the hospital where they told me it was a sprained ankle. Then it became purple on both sides of the ankle and now under every toe on my foot. It stopped hurting sunday and monday, but today I woke up and it just kills again! The bruises are all up my leg and so is the pain…

Is it really just a sprain?

Did they do an x-ray? Can you move your foot at all without screaming in utter pain? To me that sounds more like a fracture, especially with the swelling! If they did an x-ray then yes it probably is just a sprain, but if they didn’t I suggest you go back to hospital and get an x-ray! In the meantime take paracetemol and ibroprofen (you can take them simultaneously). I suggest taking them every 2hours alternating them so that you take paracetemol at say 10 then ibroprofen at 12 then paracetemol at 2 then ibroprofen at 4 and so on. This will not only help the pain but should also reduce the swelling. Also keeping your ankle above the rest of your body and not weight-bearing for awhile will help. Also try and get your hands on a tubby-grip as that is supposed to provide extra support (although I swear they don’t actually do anything). Hope this helps and you get better soon x
