What are some interesting religions I can consider?

Okay soi was raised a Greek orthodox Christian which is essentially a Greek Christian. I stopped believing in thsi faith about a year ago and from recent events i have realized i don’t think i believe in god anymore (i hope no one gets offended by this) I was wondering if anyone could introduce me to some good religions i could consider, i like the spirituality ideas but i usually like to listen to evidence and this is why i no longer want to be a Christian, So if anyone knows of any good or interesting religions please inform me of them. NOTE- if you do not agree with what someone else has written keep your mouth shut because i don’t want to start any fights on what people believe. So again just if you don’t like it keep it shut.

Try reading a book called “A return to love”. by marrianne Williamson. From a series of books called “A course in miracles.” She expands in a very readable fashion the notion that God is pure love energy. She uses different relgions and spiritual teachings to make her points. Fascinating.

Answer #4

Thanks for the suggestion, ill see if i can find it

Answer #5

I suggest looking into a pantheism religion. They do not include god/s, but do have spiritual guidelines and can provide one with a sense of community. Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, and Sikhism are all examples of pantheism religions. You could start with the Four Nobel Truths and the Eightfold Path of Buddhism to see the kind of things they teach. The Baha’is are one of the newest religions out there. They are a monotheistic religion, which means they believe in a god. However, I loooove their teachings and recommend looking into their views.

I really recommend going through all the religions you can think of, find what you like out of all of them, and follow your own path. I’m sorry that I didn’t give more information on each religion, but that would require tons of time that I don’t have. :P

Answer #6

What do you mean evidence?? Jesus dieing on the cross for you and I isn’t enough for evidence? God parting the Red Sea? Virgin Mary? What evidence do you need? The Bible is enough! Isn’t it? God is the only way to Heaven and eternal life that should be more than “just evidence” My advice would be to start praying to God. God will bless you!

Answer #10

Using the Bible to prove Christianity is circular logic dontcha’ think?

The Bible is true because it is the word of God. God exists because the Bible says so.

Answer #11

I think I know where you are coming from. When I quit believing in God I felt a little aimless at first. There are some religions and parts of religion that I admire. I found myself being drawn to certain religions because I liked some of their teachings but I really couldn’t get over not believing their dogma. I thought about joining a church and thinking of God as a symbol or metaphor but that seemed dishonest and even disrespectful to those who earnestly believe in a personal God. Then it occurred to me that as an atheist that I can synthesize my own worldview and take what I like from every religion, worldview, and philosophy and leave behind the dogmas that I can’t accept. For me this turned out to be the most satisfying approach.

Read the Principia Discordia http://funadvice.com/r/15m67gugaik It is the bible of the Discordian religion. You can read it online. It costs nothing. It isn’t even long. It’s just a little confusing. But that is supposed to be that way, because Eris is the Goddess of Chaos, Discord and Confusion. If you like it, you can become a Discordian anytime you like to. We don’t have any rules about how you become a Discordian. That is solely your choice. Contact any Discordian church or have your own church, as you like. We’re very open.

If you do not like the Principia, feel free to laugh about it and move on. No one will be insulted. Eris is very forgiving about your amusement.

Hail Eris All hail Discordia

Answer #13

People who don’t like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn’t have such funny beliefs.

Answer #14

I am a Christian but I like playing devils advocate because if I can see why others don’t believe I realize why I do. Jesus dying on the cross: a insane man who goes about proclaiming he is the son of a god and destroying property in temples and committing libel of high religious and political leaders. He is put to death for crimes and makes up a reason for it. Virgin Mary: a girl who had sex before marriage and covers it up by saying its from god. Red sea: the sea level was low and the tides shifted causeing an elevated section of land to appear. To finish I would like to say who are you to say your religion is more correct than all the others. How about you love thy neighbor and leave them alone it’s not all about what you believe it’s about what you do in life

Answer #15

Don’t be rude.. I am just saying. But really, I really do suggest you look more into it. It’s more about finding the source of your problems in life and you really just believe in what you want and there is nothing forced down on you. It’s more of a religion to find yourself. I did it for a project in my Advanced Placement Human Grography class a couple weeks ago. I really enjoyed teaching my friends about it!(:

Answer #16

Scientology, like some other religious or spiritual groups, does not put all its cards on the table for newcomers. The introductory level of teachings that you can encounter as a high school student doing a geography project is merely the bottom rung of a steep ladder. At the top, Kayzia, you would find a great deal more official dogma than your answer here suggests. They withhold that information in large part because if you were to hear those beliefs now, you would likely find them difficult to accept. (I’m trying to be tactful, lol.) However, a lot of that information has been made publicly available on the web by ex-Scientologists, much to the chagrin of the Scientology hierarchy. Look up Xenu on Wikipedia, for example.

Answer #17

I like how no one has anything to say to my comment above

Answer #18

Dont get all big headed :p

Answer #19

Will, if Jesus was insane why isn’t their a third party source like a witness saying he was “insane”? Also, in History, the closest sources to the events are generally the most accurate, so if you do give me a source, my source will likely be more contemporary than yours. I love my History will, don’t play devils advocate with me =)

Answer #20

Lol red sea, try reading the passage maybe next time even if you are playing devils advocate (assumption) In the story, the water held back enough for an whole nation. In the Virgin Mary story, I highly doubt an horde of Jewish men would be convinced that the baby was from God, (after all, Women didn’t have much power in the ancient times)
