I have to prefrom a song to my music class, i want to do the song by myself but I want to make sure i can sing well first cause im sick of being put in a group with other people while i sit in the background playing the song on guitar. My mum doesnt have enough to pay for singing lessons, so is there anything i can do at home to help with the singing part?
Make sure you do warm up exercises before singing. This will prevent you damaging your voice. You can find some warm up exercises on youtube. Record yourself singing and try to pick out the parts you're not sure about.. Then you'll be able to improve on certain things. Or you could let someone hear you sing and ask them to give their honest opinion and tell you where abouts you need to improve.
One of the big keys to singing is breathing. Be sure to have plenty of air in your lungs and sing from your diaphram or in other words push it out from your gut. Get a breath when you can and sing it out. That's how you carry the notes/lyrics and the song. Don't sing from the neck up as we do when we speak. Singing takes more wind.
