Reason for backwardness in india?

What are the reasons for the backwardness in India?

Answer #1

I think it’s the lack of infrastructure & the political situation, imho.

Answer #2

thedude - Yes, the question was about India but it seemingly came from the perspective of disrespect for the Indian culture. Assigning the word “backwards” to describe one country, when the very same problems are happening in the U.S. is, to me, an insult. And a very superior attitude that needed responding to. I understood what you meant by “infrastructure & the political situation” but my point was more a response to silverwings and sandy24 and their arrogance in placing such a description on India.

Answer #3

wow, can you say ethnocentric? it amazes me how you perceive your culture to be superior to that of another…

Answer #4

Maybe it is the lack of Christianity?

Answer #5

Mostly, it’s their religio-political beliefs. They’re making good progress though, and the internet is helping many there shed their superstitions, just as it is in most parts of the world.

Answer #6

IN THE U.S…

About 15 million children – one out of every four – live below the official poverty line.

22% of Americans under the age of 18 – and 25% under age 12 – are hungry or at the risk of being hungry.

Everyday 2,660 children are born into poverty; 27 die because of it.

Children and families are the fastest growing group in the homeless population, representing 40%.

Oh yes, India is SO backward. And the U.S. is SO wonderful. Then why are the above stats true. Why in a nation that is majority CHRISTIAN (silverwings) and so progressive (sandy24) do SO MANY CHILDREN GO TO SLEEP HUNGRY? OR DIE FROM STARVATION? Is America’s wonderful “infrastructure & the political situation” to blame for the above numbers. ONE IN EVERY FOUR CHILDREN IN THE U.S. LIVE BELOW THE POVERTY LINE>>> 27 CHILDREN DIE OF STARVATION EVERY DAY IN THE U.S.

so, yes, let’s talk about how backwards, superstitious, and heathen India is… WHAT IS OUR EXCUSE?

Answer #7

utopia…with all due respect: the question was about India, not the US.

And for the United States, I’d blame the political situation (we waste a lot of money replicating government at the state & federal level, wars, etc, that would be far better spent elsewhere, but the majority of the populace didn’t think impeachment was needed).

Infrastructure meaning healthcare…a friend of mine recently went through a series of medical issues and the billing nightmares, doctors second guessing each other…was horrendous.

If we had a medical system that was geared towards helping people - not making insurance companies $$$ - then that would improve things, no? That’s what I mean by “infrastructure”…systems & support of a group, organization or entity…

My bad on being vague & to the point.

Personally, any country can make improvements…it’s about the trade offs those in power (the haves) are willing to make to improve things.
