I Want To Get Over This

For nearly 6 years I was involved with a married man. I knew from the start he would never leave his wife. During the last year of our relationship I started seeing someone else… a guy who is a real catch and I really care about him but find myself thinking about the married man everyday still. I don’t call the married guy and have done my best to move on. I think one thing that makes things more difficult is that sometimes we will “run” into each other on our way to work and that I have to pass the back of his house everyday when I’m on the freeway to work and home. This is the only way for me to get to work so another route isn’t possible, I’ve already thought of that and the running into him just seems to set me back, even though it’s as simple as us just waving back at each other and continuing on to work. We broke up very amicably and it was never my wish to tell his wife. It was what it was and it was wrong. I still have really strong feelings for this guy and sometimes still daydream that he and I will see each other again, although I know it couldn’t happen. It was 5 1/2+ years of hell. Is this normal? It doesn’t feel normal. I just wanted to vent as I’ve never shared this with anyone.

Well, it sounds great that you’ve moved on. Some relationships leave a more lasting impression than others, and I can imagine the fear, frustration, and emotional turmoil that must have become part of such a long affair for both you & the married guy. While you may not feel recovered yet, give it time, as you’ll start to feel better about yourself, and the new great guy you might have found. Good luck.
