I want to change my style to goth. . . ?

I’ve been interested in the style for some time now (it wasn’t a one minute decision). I have been getting some black clothes, so it’s not like my style would change suddenly (I guess my style right now is emo?). I know it’s not just wearing all black, and I don’t want to look like someone who thinks that. Clothes tips please? Please help!

Goth isn’t just about the style…its a lot more than that. I decided to get into the goth scene around age 15…and have been living it since…I veiw it as a lifestyle. :)

Try to read around on the internet about it, and their are great sites wear I get my clothing such as GoodGoth.com and The Black Angel and the Velvet Garden. They have TONS of amazing gothic clothing that look great. YOu can get good quality for a great price. Also, try some thrift shops, I fancy those for finding plain little red and purple tees, as well as some awesome jackets and fabric. You can do DIY projects and create your own gothic clothing. I purchase studs, zippers and patches online as well…its so much easier than trying to find them in stores.

Goths don't just wear black. Purple is often incorporated as well as reds, greys, browns, neons...ECt. It all depens on how you wear them...and the look you want to achieve?
You like the hardcore look? Black.
Romantic looks? Red, purple and blacks...incorporated with neons.

Cyber looks? Lots of neons!

Even some prefer to wear white gothic clothing, which is often beautiful as well.

Good luck!

I have to agree, you sound like a HUGE poser…you don’t just go I think I’m gonna turn goth…doesn’t matter how long you’ve thought about it, if you were really goth you would just be it and not ask people how to dress like it…be YOURSELF and don’t slap a label on it!!

Well, I used to be goth for a month (On a dare) even though I had to die my hair black I got red and silver streaks in it, and I wore fishnet leggings (Hot topic) and well, you have to feel it. You have to be slightly happy, though don’t show it, dark sense of humor and you’ll see.

“Fau” and anag are on top of it and know exactly what they’re talking about. I agree completely with their advice - you sound like a poser.

Answer #5

remember, you can still take parts from different styles and incorporate them into your own style without slapping a label on yourself

Answer #6

If you’re trying to dress “Gothic”, you have to understand that it isn’t just the clothing. But hey, that’s your prerogative I guess.

Dress to stand out, that’s the important thing. A lot of black is worn as well as bits of white, red and purple. The thing that I like about Gothic fashion is that it’s usually very sexy. Lace, ribbon, corseted tops and dresses, black eye makeup, and I have realised that a lot of Goths have pale skin too. Black lipstick is absolutely great.

Extravagant hair styles are a must. Some shave the bottom half of their head off (more girls, than guys), sleek and shiny black hair etc.
