I need guys advice

Okay well theres this guy who I really like we kissed a few times and everything was great but then he told me he doesnt want to get into a relationship because he doesnt know how long he will be here for then he said I was a wonderful woman. After that things changed kinda more on the awkward side whenever we seen eachother after that, I just told him I dont want things to change or be awkward between us because I enjoyed the way we were and he then wrote “well…” so I said well what and he said what do you think…so I told him it could pretty much mean anything then he asked what I wanted and I said I dont want things to change between us and that I do have feelings for him and if he ever feels them back maybe we could start something together then I added in but im probably asking for to much so its not what I want its what you want…then he went offline, so my question is does he like me and he’s just affraid to tell me or get into a relationship possibly because he thinks it might ruin are friendship? Or does he not like me but he’s to affraid to tell me? im so confussed I really like him and he seems to not get along good with other guys who like me like it secretly makes him jelouse but he doesnt tell me not to hang out with them and he’s also very protective over me…
