I don't know what to do about my cousin.

She’s 19 and she has a small 2 year old son. Todays he calls saying that she is depressed because of something her child’s father did ,they are separated and don’t live together but she went to see him today, and is now saying she doesn’t want to live anymore when she calls me. I’m on the fence as to what I should do.

The reason I don’t know is because she just went home from staying at my house for a week and during that stay she brought her small son. I let her come over because she said she was lonely and I felt bad about leaving her alone. So she comes over and its just supposed to be for a few day, but she ends of staying for 8, and during that stay she won’t watch her son or clean up after herself. Finally my Fiancee’ said that it was enough ( she also gave everyone bronchitis because she didn’t tell she was ill) and that we needed time to recover and that she needed to go home.

Now today she calls saying these things. I feel like it might be ploy to come over again and get some else to watch her child but I don’t know if she really needs help or what sort of I help I can provide.

Thank you in advance.

I think right now, the most important thing to do is keep the child in mind. Clearly your cousin is not stable enough to raise a child at the moment, I would try a non invasive intervention-like meeting, you need to get the child out of that enviorment and get the mother help. She might not appreciate it now, but she will later. If she is thinking suicidal thoughts, and not taking acceptable health care of her or her child, she NEEDS help, professional help I would think, its best to act now so that the situation doesnt get any worse, so just get the kid out of there, and send her to maybe a psychologist, or a hospital where she can be monitered and not hurt herself…Shes not “crazy” but it sounds like shes on her way there.
