There are lawyers, of course, who specialize in handling disability cases. They can be located on the internet by searching for Disability lawyers. Also, many times, they can be located by looking in your local telephone book for what is called the “Lawyer’s Referral Service”….which in some areas is an organization that will help you locate a proper and reputable lawyer if they are available in that area. A disability lawyer is always a good idea. They already know the legal “in’s and out’s” of the laws when it comes to what you are entitled to. For example, it is a well known fact that the Social Security Disability office will refuse your first application for disability. The lawyers know how to properly handle that for you. Unless you know a lot about the disability laws that govern your area, you would be well to legally represent yourself with a qualified attorney. If you remain uncertain up to the last minute, what you may simply want to do is locate a good disability attorney, call them on the phone, and simply set up a “one time” consultation about your case. Some places will not even charge you for that. Then, go talk to them directly and see what they have to say about being, and not being, represented. They will be much more able to handle direct questions you have about your case than the general public on Fun Advice. If your financial support for the future is dependant upon your success for receiving disablity, then perhaps the cost of a good attorney may not go to waste in the long run. You might just make out much better that way.
