How good is this micro-story?

A micro-fiction or micro-story is where you have a limited amount of words to show what is going on and imply something much bigger, but leave the majority of imagination up to the reader. Hope you guys like this:

There he was again flipping the jackknife out and slipping it across his arms in criss-cross motions, red X’s welling up. His face was blank but I knew he was in some other place some happiness that was only free with pain. I didn’t understand and took the towel off the desk, pressing it on his arm. He stopped, gasped, awakening. And he looked up at me and started crying. Looked down again and put his hand over mine, whispering, ‘’I wish he were still here.’’
