How does confession work in the Catholic Church?

How does confession work in the Catholic church? Does the Preast help you repent? And if any of you happen to be Catholic, do you feel better when confessing your sins? Just curious.

Hi Goodgirl,

I believe that the reason Christ gave us confession is because it helps us to speak our sins and hear when we’re forgiven. I find confessing difficult, of course I do, but it’s what God has asked me to do. When I confess I’m not speaking to the priest, I’m speaking to God, and when the priest says,

“…and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit…”

I hear God’s voice telling me that I’m forgiven. His wisdom in giving us this sacrament (a sacrament is an outward sign of God’s action in our lives) is clear, because He understands how it helps us.

The priest usually gives some advice, often very good advice, but that’s not the main point of confession.

To learn more about it why not pop into your local Catholic Church, I’m sure the priest would be happy to talk to you, God bless you.

Its all aobut you and your relationship with GOD! YOu are just as close to GOD as the preist is and I feel so much better when I repent to god myself- I feel and know that I am forgiven and I can rest in peace and just try my hardest! Thats why god is sooo good- we are all sinners and equal in his eyes. God loves us all equally the murderer on the street has just as much connection with god as us—he loves us all!!!

god bless

Answer #3

I am not a Catholic, but I can tell you that when I confess directly to the Father, Jesus I feel forgiven.

It doesn’t need to go thru a third party to get to God. Jesus says for us to pray directly to Him without a ‘middle-man’

God bless
