How do you become a true piercer?

Is it best to have pierced yourself first to become a real piercer? To master the accuracy, precision, but also the intencity and therefor how important it is to get it right and have the courage and art to do it?

I’d appreciate it if real piercers or people who actually know a lot on the subject could help me out, also for others who have been wondering the same question, otherwise we’ll be stuck with information that won’t mean too much. (:

Thanks a lot in advance!!

By “Real Piercier” I taking you mean a piercing artist (someone who doesnt just pierce ears in the mall).

The #1 way to become a piercing artist is to get an apprenticiship with a piercing artist. The easiest way to do this is to get a job as the receptionist at a local tattoo/piercing shop.

Once in let them know your interest in piercing. Usually they will appretice you for free as long as you sign a no-compete form. This takes 3-6 months typically before they let you start piercing people. Typically between 6-12 months they let you start piercing people on your own and let you get paid/tipped for doing so.

If there are no jobs available you can always hang out at the tattoo place and try to become frieds withthe artists. It helps if you have one person who always pierces or tattoos you working there. Then convince him to teach you. This route they usually charge you a small fee but can sometimes be free with a no-compete form.

I mean personally I know a lot on the subject but I’m not YET a piercer, nor have I yet pierced myself anywhere, though I have great urges to do so. I could say it is necessary, whatever people say. I know most people wouldn’t be able to pierce themselves but seriously someone started it the whole thing out in Africa somewhere or whatever and it become a spiritual ritual and had lots of meaning, they still do it all the time. I’m not saying everyone should go out and so it, I just think most people know if they’re up for it / capable of it or not, even if they fuck up slightly, that they learn from it and it’s no biggy.

Still, this is my -unproffessional- opinion, and I’d still like some more info on the subject if poss ^^.

Tah!
