I work at a vet hospital Dieingsouls, sorry if it sounded like I don’t know what I was talking about. But Hmmm lets see. Last week we euthanized a 16 week old shep mix for not eating and acting lethargic. NO vomtining and NO bloody stool. And no Vaccines.

So we did a parvo test. YES it was postive. lady could not spend the money to treat. so we put the dog down, MOMENTS after it was gone a pool of nothing but blood came out of the dogs anus, and that nasty smell of parvo was all around us. OH and we removed a tampon from a dogs stomach who was not eating, and a sewing needle from a puppies intestines that was not eating, and Nickels from a boston pup that was not eating.

Second you boil chicken or beef and mix it with rice. this is called a bland diet. you Don’t change their food to quick or introduce to many foods at once. I will say once again. To rule out any kind of illness I would take the pup to the vet and have a good health check up done, Second talk to your vet about a good puppy diet for the breed you have. So bieingsouls, with loosing a litter of pups to parvo, you should know how important it is to get your dogs to a vet and for them to be current on vaccines, and that parvo can live up to 13 months in the enviorment where the dogs walked, slept, and pooped.

so I think you may need to give a little more thought as to why this pup may not be eating, upset stomach, change of home, sick, A dog will not starve itself if food is available to eat.

You shouldn’t be having so much trouble getting a pup to eat…but…do NOT give it MEAT…soak puppy kibble in warm water, until it is soft…(warm water also gives it an appetizing aroma). If the not eating continues, I’d get it to the Vet…there is an incubation period on Parvo…so catching it early is the best shot a pup has for survival…

Also, there are many other things that befall pups…worms can make their guts upset, as well as coccydia and giardia…look for mucous in the stool (a sign of gastric upset). This pup needs to have a wellness check, anyway…so why not take it to the Vet, and get the baby checked out?

An animal that refuses food usually has something going on.

my dog did that,I stuffed it in his mouth I know it sounds harsh but it works just stuff it in its mouth and close it enouph to where it can’t spit it out

Answer #5

parvo? doubt it. if its not getting sick within just hours of not eating then no its not. and no one can tell me different I watched a whole litter of puppies die of parvo. within barley 24 hrs.

this is going to sound weird but try chicken, dont give it too much and bake it, dont put anything on it. take it off the bone, let it cool down and mix soft/hard food with it. im sure your puppy will love it. chicken wont hurt your pupy either its actually very good for animals!

First of all a puppy should not go to a new home until 8 weeks of age. In some states this is the law. Second, use a good puppy food, you may have to use wet puppy food, or take dry puppy food and put some water on it. NOw if the dog is not eating and acting lethargic I may have to question weather it is sick or not. Has it had a health exam yet, fecal test, vaccines. Could it have parvo?
