When you hold doors open for people to pass through do they say "thankyou"?

“Whenever people hold doors for me to pass through, out of appreciation I always say thank you. But yet whenever I hold doors open for others to pass through they are so rude that they never say thank you but rather “mhmm”. Sometimes they never say thank you at all. They just pass through the door with a mean look on their face like they are going to start fights with you. Do you know that my parents are the cause of my problems? My parents are so stupid whenever they are around me and they see someone coming they tell me to hold the door for them but yet I always ask myself would they do the same for me?”

Some do say “thank you” and I always reply with a “yes mam” or “yes sir” I will almost always open the door for a lady, especially if she is elderly.

As for the ones who don’t say thanks……I don’t worry about them. The ones who do make up for it.

It’s just common courtesy to hold the door open for people. Most people say thank you but not all. Maybe they said it and you couldn’t hear it, maybe they didn’t hear you, maybe they’re extremely concentrated on where they are going.

Holding the door reflects well on YOU, even if you get no “Thank you’s” back.
