I'm taking a college level history class next year but I'm beginning to have second thoughts because I'm not sure how history will be beneficial later on. What types of careers or jobs require you to be good in history?
History is good to know if you go into politics, or journalism or any field where you have to judge and write or talk about current events...
Politics... Knowing about how people screwed things up in the past makes you able to find new and improved methods of screwing things up.
Other fields: Knowing about about how people screwed things up in the past makes you able to spot the people who repeat the same mistakes and appear so much smarter than them by saying: "The politician XYZ did something similar in a comparable situation in Nicaragua in 1865. This resulted in the catastrophe ZYX because (whatever). Thie current situation is very likely to blow up in our faces the very same way. Don't say I didn't warn you!"
I say it's hard to know where you're going unless you know where you've been... Also, the more you know, the more interesting a person you are. Aside from that, history is very valuable for any legal or political professions.
I think is to pay tribute to the people and also to not repeat the same mistakes from the past, but even with that we are still making the same mistakes so history repeats itself again and again lol.
It's ABSOLUTELY true that if you aren't aware of it, you're most probably going to repeat the SAME costly mistakes !
