Great question for school! Deacons help run the church: maintenance, needs of the building, sit in on the board meetings, pray and assist as amblessed said above. Some are spiritual leaders who do the same. Elders comprise the spiritual council, who make sure the Word is protected, who pray over the sick, and help the pastor or pastors with visitation, and who also help keep a church running smoothly. Priests, pastors, reverends, and the like through each state’s requirements, give the sermons (as elders may if they have been given that spiritual teaching gift) do baptisms, weddings, funerals, etc. There are some cults who marry and it is the same as a four year old performing it. They truly are not ordained to perform such a sanctified ceremony.
