Bar magnet

You have a bar magnet and a coil of wire. When you move the magnet through the coil a current is created.

What are three changes you could make to create a larger current? What is the difference in the current created in the coil when the magnet is moved into the coil as compared to the magnet being removed from the coil?

Answer #1

This sounds like homework so I shouldn’t just give you the full answer.

The formula for the e.m.f created in the wire, which produces the current is:

E=Blv

E = emf, B = magnetic field strength, l = wire length and v = their velocity relative to eachother.

Keep in mind velocity is a vector, meaning it has direction, positive and negative.

Answer #2

a larger magnet or a different type of wire?

& the difference in the current is, when you move it into the coil you gain electrons, and when you remove it you lose electrons.
