How hard is it, really, to find work?

I’m not currently looking for a job, and the last time I switched jobs was over 6 years ago so it was a completely different environment. I know my wife (at the time g/f) took about 3 months to find a new job whens he moved back to town and that was about a year ago. 3 months doesn’t sound too bad of a time frame.
And I know I have drove by several stores just on my way to work with “Help Wanted” signs up in their windows. But I keep hearing people complain about how hard it is to find work. From the people I know and just looking around it doesn’t seem that bad. Might not be a great job, but it is a job.

So really how hard is it to find work in your area? Even if its just something seasonal to get you by for a few months?

Hard enough that 1,000’s have ‘given up’ trying, according to our Government…

Answer #2

Very hard unless really educated

Answer #3

That’s why I was asking more for peoples personal experience because I don’t really buy that.

Answer #4

Very….What your not hearing is how skewed the unemployment figures are. They base it on those who are collecting Unemployment Compensation not on those who ether can’t collect or have exhasted their benefits. It also doesn’t get advertised how many more “Baby Boomers” , who can’t find work have opted to take early retirement on SS. The huge amounts of social security reserved is facing a senior population having a substantial drain because of age discrimination in a very tight job market. Part of the reason I haven’t been around till this point is that I had to move from office work enviornments and reinvent myself in training for positions that aren’t as age discrimnatory to carry me through till I can access my own SS. Companies today want young, attending, or fresh out of school employees because they know they will do the work, take bs without question and conform to it, and offer them far less money then someone with on hands experience.
