gold is an element- true, but you can reduce it’s value by creating an alloy- melting it down and mixing with a less expensive metal- such as silver, copper, etc.

creating an alloy I believe would be the only way to decrease golds value.

No, it can’t, Gold is an element, therefore, it can’t be broken down into any simpler elements.

you can turn gold into anything. you dont need a particle accelerator. just the changing number of protons will make it a different element or atom. no hard science there. but in doing so you could have a radioactive element.
