Not all of them are like that but a few examples are Bella from twilight( I read a part of breaking dawn but that was enough) Mary from the forest of hands and teeth, her successor gabrielle, Zara from some novel I can't remember. Those are the ones I know or remember. They both can't live without the speshul boys and are constantly obsessing and annoying people. Ok Gabrielle is just annoying because she was sheltered do I can understand. But why must they be like that? I was happy when I found katniss and katsa but I think the worst on the list is Bella :|
I completely understand you and have found myself wishing to throttle certain characters while I'm reading cough Bella* cough for being absolute morons... The only decent female protagonist I've come across recently is Zoey Redbird (House of Night).
I find it very hard to find female characters in any book that has admirable qualities. For some reason, women are almost always portrayed as self-absorbed, spoiled, and needy.
she was okay for the first few books, but then I stopped liking her as well :P
That's also a reason why I'm writing my own to break the rule
What about Max in Maximum Ride I didnt find her whiny?
