Getting new kittens?

What should I do to introduce new kittens to another cat? I’ve had my one cat for a few years, and I’m not sure how he’ll react to new cats.

All good answers. Male adult cats WILL often beat up kittens, sometimes even their own (my late Kitty’s father did). I’d like to add a couple ideas I read on another forum: set aside a separate room or space for the new kitten, into which the older cat can’t go, until they’ve become accustomed to one another. After awhile, let the two cats SEE one another, but with a barrier, such as a screen between them.

Be prepared for the possibility that if your cat is REALLY territorial, it may never accept the new one! Cats are notoriously quirky this way…each has a unique personality.

When you finally “introduce” them in the same room (after a time), make SURE to show the first cat plenty of attention and that he “comes first”. This should take some of the edge off of his territoriality. If it doesn’t work, after a month or so, I’d abandon the idea or if you feel you MUST get another cat, get another adult (pref. female) that can defend itself!

remember some cats are territorial so if the kittens are smaller you need to be very careful usualy cats aren’t as bad if they don’t see the other as a threat but some kittens are curious about bigger cats and the bigger could feel that as a threat. you need to watch it constantly and let the kitten sleep in the room with you and the other cat sin’t in there!!!

you say “HE’LL”… If its a male I would watch him around them cause some times male cats can be really mean to kittens. Just put them to where they are far enough apart but can still explore with each other. If he acts like he doesn’t want anything to do with them than watch him close cause he could hurt them… Mostly he will slap them around if they get close to him. Good Luck !!!

take it slowly. it helps if the kitten is the opposite gender of the older cat, the older cat will feel less threatened.

My vet suggested I put the kitten in like one of those big crates and let the adult cat approach the kitten…
