How long until Toxic Shock Syndrome happens?

how long can you have a tampon stuck in you before you get toxic shock syndrome

Answer #1

Anyone can get TSS – men, women and children. Half the reported cases of TSS are associated with women using tampons; half result from localized infections, for example following burns, boils, insect bites or surgery.

There are only 40 cases of TSS reported in the UK every year and only 20 of them are due to women wearing tampons. TSS is very rare.

Just follow the advice below and you should be ok.

always use a tampon with the lowest absorbancy suitable for your period flow

wash your hands before and after inserting a tampon change tampons regularly, as often as directed on the pack

never insert more than one tampon at a time when using at night, insert a fresh tampon before going to bed and remove it on waking

remove a tampon at the end of a period

I personally recommend changing your tampon at least every 4 hours, more often if the flow is heavy. And at night a fresh one before you go to bed and change straight away when you wake up..

I’ve been using them for over 30 years and never had a problems and no regrets using them either.

Answer #2

There is not a specific number of hours it takes before you can get TSS. However you should never wear a tampon for more than 8 hours tops, during heavy flow you need to change it more often , and make sure to wear the proper size for your current flow. TSS (toxic shock syndrom), though uncommon, is a bacterial infection which can be fatal. The odds of you contracting TSS is higher and higher with every passing hour you leave it in.

I think its like 2-3 days or something.
