Does your family have a traditional Thanksgiving prayer?

Answer #1

Nope. Instead of praying and thanking god for what we have like most people might do, we go around the table and list the top 3 things we are thankful for. We try to avoid prayers cause of the many relgiones, and how some are athests and don’t want to affend anyone.

Answer #2

In my family we go around the 1st table asking what were thankful for and we do pray but its not even long but its fun.

Answer #3

I’m not much of a prayer person. When everyone else grovels to their deity I like to look around and acknowledge the other heathens like myself. I generally don’t make waves with believers; in fact when as guest I’m asked to lead the prayer I have one prepared, “Good food, good friends, good God let’s eat!”

Answer #4

My family does not, it’s just something we’ve never done I guess. My foster family does though, we pray & then we go around the table so each individual can say whay they are thankful for.

Answer #5

Yes we do

Answer #6

Nope, we don’t.

Answer #7

My family doesn’t…..

Answer #8

No but one thing we make sure happens before we eat, when MAKE SURE my aunt Louis DOES NOT pray over the food! It takes her like 10 minutes to pray over food. She’s wants to bless the food the farmer the soil the seed the rain the lord. She wanna bless every damn thing!! No anuty we don’t need all of that.

Answer #9

We pray sometimes for Thanksgiving, but most of the time, we go around saying what we’re thankful for

Answer #10

In your families case Jade, I’d say that is a great traditional way of doing things. It respects all and acknowledges the spirit of Thanksgiving. Believer or not…LOL

Answer #11

My former MIL was an ordained Evangelical Minister…I know what you mean…LOL Lady we the foods getting cold, we’re starvin, and this ain’t church nor do we need a full gospel session!!!

Answer #12

Reminds me of our summer camp meal-time prayer: “Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yaaaaayyy G!D!!!”

Answer #13

In those times where I have my way ….I agree with gurug and Jade…everyone briefly reflect on what’s to be thankful for in their personal lives. Then let’s eat. No sermons !!!!

Answer #14

At my Summer camp we sang grace to the melody of Michael Row Your Boat Ashore but with the words “Thank you for the food we eat, Hallelujah” over and over.

Answer #15
