Why are eyeliner pencils so awful to sharpen?

Ugh. I’ve stopped using the automatic roll up retractable eyeliners because I’m suddenly allergic to all of them, even Clinique.. so now it’s back to the pencils. Got a new one two weeks ago and today there’s only about 3 inches left!! Every time I sharpen it, it breaks off because it’s so soft. Anyone got any secrets? Refridgerate it for a few minutes? And man, those jagged pencil bits really hurt.

cause the matieral inside is so soft. If you use a sharpener intended for a writing pencil it will create a very sharp tall point that reveals long skinny portion of the graphite, If you use a sharpener intended for a makeup pencil is creates a short stubby point that reveals a Short thicker portion of the makeup. When sharpening, aim for more of a short stubby tip, not a long pointy one

because the eyeliner are softer than a regular pencil. It is better to use of a sharpener intended for an eyeliner, but as long as the eyeliner is not too fat, it can be sharpened with a standard-size pencil sharpener. (which I do most of the time) however using pencil sharpener might take a while to get a good point and sometimes it might break but just try again

its easier to just buy the kind you dont have to sharpen..liek the kind that rolls up and down like a lipstick would…i find those are so much easier to handle and easier to apply too…

You’re right, they are WAY easier and more convenient. Believe me, I would if I could but some time around last year or the year before, my eyes started watering and getting itchy when I used them. I tried about 12 different brands, paying anywhere from $3 to $45 and it didn’t make any difference. I’m guessing they all use the same ingredients. That’s the only reason I switched to the pencils. Sigh.
