OK. So, I come home and my dog (younger one) has a swollen eye, cuts around his eye, and a big bump on his head.. From fighting and he started it. I can't take him to the vet, but what can I do to help him? Please hurry and answer.
this culd be a sign that your dogs have started to challenege each other for the leader or dominant dog role. what i'd recomend is puttiing both your dogs on either side of your body and go for a pack walk. keep your dogs close to your side without them going past your knee. you need to show them that you are the leader in their pack. make sure that they cannot reach each other during the walk and check them or correct them at any sign of them disobeying you or trying to get at or snip at each other. walk at a fast pace to keep the dogs at a joggers pace or trot. keep your shoulders relaxed and try not to physcially pay attention to the dogs. just act as though you are by yourself and trying to get somewhere very quickly. You need to be able to correct or check your dogs by feeling their body lan\uage rather than looking at them and seeing it. it's not easyily done but try it everyday or three times a week if possibel. if you do it right then you will have established yourself as pack leader and there should be less or no more fights between your dogs.

Your dogs need to get used to each other.
MOST dogs can just be introduced to one another and expected to live side by side as pals.
How to get them use to each other:
Get two towels and TWO separate places for them to eat. My suggestion is two completely separate rooms. Rub down one on one towel and the other on the other towel and place them UNDER opposite water and food bowls. So your puppy will smell your older dog and vice versa. this gets them used to the other dog without them fighting. Once a day you need to relaese them for SUPERVISED play time so they can recognize each other. When you live the area for long periods of time they need to go into their kennels or rooms. If you let one room the house he will get the impression he is alpha male and thus create a fight. Good luck.
watch "the dog whisperer" as cesar milan deals with this issue quite often. he usually talks about establishing yourself as the "pack leader" by walking them for 45 min - 1 hr daily. then you should make sure they are "calm and submissive"before you feed them. check out some old episodes on the net or get the dvds. it has helped me a LOT to understand my dogs.
first take them to the vet to make sure they're okay. Then separate them and introduce them slowly while not leaving them unsupervised. Give them treats if they behave and then they will know to behave because they get treats and then you wouldn't give them treats after training them to behave. But you need to watch them VERY CLOSELY!!!
1) separate them for a long time, if you have muzzels put them on both the dogs and have them socialize with eachother but still with their muzzels on. 2) if they got really hurt then try to clean the wounds and bandage them up, and have them rest 3) if they growl at each other smack them on the head, and tell them its not ok
I've tried doing that, Right now they are separated. And chained up. And the little one who started it, always starts growling and if I say anything/hit him on the head he'll charge at my other dog. The other dog (older) doesn't do anything but walk past us to see what we're doing.
My dad told me. And also, I had a big idea because they get into a lot of fights and the one who started it, started that one.
You stated that they almost killed eachother. Those dogs do not need to be near eachother.
