Dog won't eat in new home

I just got an 11yr old lhasa apso who was with his previous owner for 8 years, he ate upon arriving at my home but has not ate since then which was almost 2 day ago. Do you think that he will come around or is he scarred for life?

He is probably just feeling anxious… being away from his previous owned… just like in the wild.. if one dog was to be separated from the pack… he would be quite anxious and would wait to be reunited again.

Try to give the dog some extra exercise for a while… that will help because it will prevent the fustration building up which can sometimes lead to behavioural problems.

Also… by tiring the dog out… the dog automatically goes into a resting state of mind… which will allow him to relax more and make him more comfortable at his new home. And of course… the hunger will start to set in more.

If all else fails… being him to the vets =]

Be sure to play with your dog… and be confident… if they sense that you are confident… they will feel more confident.. dogs pick up on stuff like that =]

Exercise.. then discipline… then affection =]

He’ll be ok…just keep offering the food. He’s an older guy, so it’ll take some time for him to aclimate to his new surroundings…

hmm <=/ I think with the quick change of surroundings, the dog is uncomfortable and may take a while for him to adjust to the nature of the house. Don’t worry, my dog went through it too =)

Answer #4

It will probably take the dog awhile to adjust to new surroundings. But, almost every dog cannot resist canned cat food. Just don’t give it to him on a regular basis. It is too hard on a dog’s kidneys. Also, when one of my dogs gets sick and won’t eat. I will hand feed him. Sometimes they like a lot of attention when they aren’t feeling well. Or if they are uncomfortable in new places. I’m sure the dog is still missing his old owner. But with a lot of attention and quiet time with you alone, he will adjust.
