Dog dying after pregnancy

My boyfriends dog just had her first litter of puppies about 5 days ago. Everything seemed fine. She looks like a pit mixed, we’re not sure of the father. (I know, they didnt get her fixed fast enough sorry!)

Today when I called he said that they think she’s dying. He explained to me that she is shaking and still hasn’t quit bleeding. Im really concerned and want them to take her to the vet but I dont think their dad will. If she dies the puppies will die considering they are only 5 days old! I have bottle fed a puppy once from the first day it was born but there are 7 and I cant be over there everytime they need to be fed!

If you have any information or anything please help!

I can’t add anything, except that after this mama and pups get turned over to the Humane Society, you go out and buy him a nice STUFFED dog…where the only thing he has to do is perhaps wash it once or twice a year.

You’ve pretty much already said everything that can be said - the dog needs to see a vet. If they don’t take her and she dies, the puppies will need to be cared for.

There’s not much we can do other than telling you to call the SPCA (or your local animal rescue) to see if they’ll help the pups.

Im appreciative of the answers, but its not my boyfriends fault if his father doesnt care. He is a loving owner and atleast he kept the dog instead of letting it roam the streets, because they used to live in a bad part of town.

I went over to his house today and she seems to be doing better. I read online that feeding the mother puppy food can help regain her energy so I got some for her and she ate all of it so hopefully it will help. If the shaking comes back I will take her to my pets vet tomorrow, and hopefully things will be fine.

Another thing to remember… depending on your state law, to let a dog die from neglect (no medical treatment) can be a felony. I am glad this treatment of the dog and puppies upsets you and that you are trying to help. Call the local Animal Sevices. Good luck and let us know how it turns out…

Have the dog signed over the Animal Control, I cannot agree more with Editor. WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO LEARN IF THEY HAVE A ANIMAL IT DOES TAKE MONEY AND CARE TO PROVIDE A GOOD HEALTHY LIFE FOR THEM. I will say it once again, you would not let your sister, wife or daughter in this kind of pain so why does the dog deserve it. The owner was the irresponsable one. Please get this dog medical attention. She more then likely has a dead puppy stuck and can’t get it out or may be devloping mastitis. This just makes me sick to my stomache and your boyfriend shoule NEVER own another animal. Do what is right and get help for this mother.

It’s NOT ok, under any circumstances, to be irresponsible enough to let a dog be dying and neglect it vet care. I know it’s not your dog, so I’m not yelling at you, but you need to do something. Even if it means calling the local Animal Control and leaving an anonymous tip that there is a sick dog with puppies there. They will come and take the dog and give it vet care if the father won’t. You need to do something to save her life…
