ow long before my dog gives birth does the mucus plug come out?

Should my dog already be loosing her placenta, she still has ten days to go.

Answer #1

If she loses the placenta - you’ve got a problem.

The placenta comes out after the puppy, not before - it’s the puppy’s life source.

What you should be watching for is a mucous plug, and it can come out anywhere between 1 to 5 days before birth (feel free to correct if I’m wrong about the time frame).

It’s a thick white/pink discharge, but it’s often hard to see because they will often clean it when it comes out.

YOU need to call your vet, this is not normal. I suggest reading and doing research on whelping a litter or dog gestation. Each pup has there own afterbirth that follows them out.

Answer #3

well if thats not whats going on, make shure theres no puppies tangled up in the placenta when she gives birth. dogs normally open the placenta for the pup to come out, but theres some crazy dogs(like mine) who dont do anything and let the puppies die wth the placenta all over them
