Do you think I should be allowed to move out?

Alright here is my position. When I was 8 years old my dad was put in prison and my sister which at the time was I believe 14 or 15 was just getting out of JDC(Juvinial Detention Center) and getting ready to move in with her 21 year old boyfriend whom she had empregnated her, and my brother whom was 16 or 17 at the time had just gotten his GED and Lisence and moved to Oregon. All my older brother and sisters were moved out of the house already. So, my whole life changed at that moment. I had to grow up and be responsible at the age of 8.

Now, 8 1/2 years later Me and my mom do NOT get along, I’ll be 17 in 5 month’s and 9 days. I am in a relationship with an older man whom I care about greatly, we have not had s and do not intend to till we are married. My mom tried saying she was going to throw him in jail.I talked to a few attorneys and an officer, they both said that was not possible because we are not doing anything wrong since we are not having s. Anywho, I support myself. I pay rent, both mine and my mom’s cell phone bill, utilities, gas, as well as all my nessesities! I am also going to college in the fall and working a full time job. What I want to know is…Since my level of maturity and responsibility is not equivalent to that of my age, and since I basically support myself…Do you think that I should be able to move out and chose where I want to live?

I commend you for doing so much to better yourself and especially, doing the right thing by waiting until you’re married ! - Legally, you must br the ‘age of majority’ for your state (usually 18) or have an emancipation order from the Court - so if she wanted to press it, she probably could - regardless, it would br less than a year - hope this helps - I wish you every happiness - great job !!

i am seventeen too and in a similar position and Know as much as you should be able to move out you can not legally know matter how much you know or don’t know or if you are taking care of your self or not also your mother can not make you pay rent until you are 18 years old legally before that she has to provide a home for you free of charge. it is great that you are going to college I start in the fall my self.

One thing you could do Is move state if you are seven teen and four months old they wont look very hard for you at all pass doing the missing persons report they wont do anything else..you could talk to your mother about moving out and then if she lets you yeah you could go ahead and do that…it is good that you are not having S**& My boy friend is 22 years old so i am also dating an older guy and supporting my self pretty much…I have looked many times into being able to move out and be on my own and although every one tells me i should be able to legally I can not however some states have independent living programs Like Hawaii it is pretty much being on your own you pay a mock rent meaning when you leave the program you get it all back you have to come home that night or call and say you are not so that they do not call you in as a runaway since you are under age but you are allowed all the freedoms as an adult and on top of that given all the responsibility’s financially and everything else. They help you get a job and get insureance and medical too and find a place to live when you do move out of the program. i will be 18 in only six months but the program allows you to stay in it until you are 21 years old. i am going to move in with my boy friend when i turn 18 because then I will legally be able to do that until then though I am going to stay in the program…i was in foster care and it just did not work for me this was better..after reading about your situation I do not know a hole lot about you but I do know that this was what I needed it was as close to on my own as I could legally get and it fits me the program is not for every one you really have to be on your own and in know way do they help you once you have the tools you need they will help you get there but once you are there they leave it at that and then if you mess up you don’t have much help at all and you have to pay the rent or you get kicked out ..but if you go to school and or work you can stay there you get your own place it is nice an apartment or a room depending on the location I would recommend looking into some thing like that. i think that legally that would be best for you and then your mother couldn’t do any thing to get you into trouble.
