Do you think I made the right decision?

My son (27), who is the only of my 3 grown up children who’s never come to visit me since I moved back to my home country (I always visit them where they live), has finally given me the honour of his visit! He arrived two days ago, we had one really wonderful day together, but he didn’t feel good yesterday and went to bed very early. I was hoping he was going to feel better today, but unfortunately, he felt a lot worse this morning. He seems to have caught some kind of stomach flu (very high temperature, headache and all the rest) so he really couldn’t go anywhere. My girl-friend suggested that we should just leave him alone and go out together, but I wanted to stay with him, first of all because I don’t see him often and just wanted to enjoy having him around, even when he is ill, and secondly because I was seriously concerned about his health. My girl-friend was rather upset when I said I didn’t want to leave him, she said I was treating him like a child. I tried to call her later but she didn’t pick up the phone. Do you think I was right to stay or should I have given in to her wish?

He’s your child, of course you did the right thing. Your children always come first and your girlfriend needs to understand that. Explain to her how you feel. Hopefully things will work out and she’ll start to understand the special bond that you share with your children.

No matter the age your children always come first. They are number one in your life. She should have been understanding. You never get to sdee your son and you see her all the time. Maybe she doesn’t understand bc she doesn’t have children or is being greedy for your time. Sit her down and tell her that you don’t get to see your family often and was conserned about your sons health. Just state your feelings and hopefully she will be more understanding.
