Is it really that disgusting that I eat whole tomatoes like apples?

I used to take them to school and eat them like that.

My mom told me tomatoes taste awesome with salt and pepper.. I didnt like tomatoes until a few days ago when i tried a grilled cheese sandwich made with tomatoes.. But im not sure if i cant eat them like apples..
