how to deal with having emotional irregularity disorder

I have lately being told that I have emotional irregularity disorder. Don’t know how to take it. What do I do??

Answer #1

You can see a therapist or a doctor. I suggest a therapist first because I think medication for things like that is so unnecessary :/

Answer #2

I’m not aware of any diagnosis “emotional irregularity disorder.” Could it be Boarderline Personality Disorder or Bipolar Disorder? Who gave you this diagnosis? There is not much info to go on here but assuming you have a real diagnosis from a real mental health professional they may be your best resource for help.

Answer #3

Medication is usually the quickest way to help someone with a mood disorder. Talk therapy can take years to help if ever. There are many people who could benefit from medication who won’t because of the stigma of taking meds. My advice would be to keep an open mind.

Answer #4

Totally. I just don’t like medications :(

Answer #5

The quickest way to help someone with a mood disorder is to tell them a funny story, play a merry jape, and treat them with more kindness - a lump of sugar to suck and a pat on the rump - you know the sort of thing.

Answer #6

Estragon, someone with clinical depression is not cheered up by a funny story, a clever prank, or a kind turn. That is the problem, they can no longer enjoy the pleasures of life. Everyone has ups and downs but for the depressed getting out of their rut is almost impossible. Many people see needing medication as a personal failing. Because of this many depressed stoically soldier on because they don’t want to be one of “those” people on medication. Medication isn’t always the answer. For a lot of people meds simply don’t work and for others the side effects are worse than the disease. Lots of people benefit from medication so as I said, everyone should keep an open mind.

Answer #7

@filletofspam: I know. That’s why I chose to post those particular crackpot suggestions. Maybe it is only me that thinks the farcical scenario of treating clinical depression with a lump of sugar and a playful slap on the backside is irresistibly hilarious. If so, I apologise.
