Why do 3 and 4 year old always say

Why do 3 and 4 year old always say they want to marry their dad or mom?

Answer #1

I’ve never heard any kid say that…0.o

Answer #2

Forgive me for forgetting the complex name for little girls, but for little boys its the Oedipus complex. At these ages, the opposite sex parent is the most perfect “specimen” (so to speak) of the opposite sex. Almost all 3 and 4 year old boys and girls will at one time mention marrying the opposite sex parent. Sorry I can’t remember the name for girls and their daddy”s. But can’t find my psych book. );

Answer #3

I haven’t heard any kid say that. maybe they say it because like if someone said its something two people do when they love eachother, who is there for a little tot to love? there’s always mommy and daddy

Answer #4

because they don’t really know what marriage is. all they know is that it’s supposed to be between people with a great bond as they have with their own parents. when they get older, they’ll understand :)

Answer #5

It’s the electra complex twillightmom :) Something a very sexist Freud (ok ok, so the era in general was sexist) didnt spend too much time on…

And honestly, it boils down to how much you buy the whole Freudian concept… I’ve never met a kid who wanted to marry their parent…

Answer #6

Thank you Ty!!! I have been racking my brain and still can’t find that da** book anywhere!!! Lol! I was thinking it started with an “E” but just…could. Not. … Think of what it was. Actually when I did my psych rotation I was in pediatrics, one of the psychologist and I were talking and I had asked her about. Apparently it is rather common and as the little girl matures that’s where that “Daddy”s girl”” thing comes in. Not so much marriage TO him (thank goodness) but in what she requires of a man that she marries, or the qualities she looks for in a prospective husband. The Oedipus complex kinda dies off a couple of years later, but lots of guys still stay extremely close and defensive of their mothers, and that’s where that comes from. As for other Freudian thoughts…I thought he was extremely strange and had a vey bad sexual problem of some kind. If Sex Addicts Anonymous were around in his time do you suppose we would be able to male “Freudian Slips” today!?? {=
