Computer addiction, no longer

This has turned into a pretty bad problem, look I’m not addicted anymore, I think, but the previous addiction pretty much turned me into a computer slave or something like that. I’m soon 17 years old and I got addicted when I was around 10, I used to play at home and at a internet café but I used to be outside most of my time, anyways even then I didn’t socialise with more than a few but most with 1 friend but stuff happened and we were no longer friends so I played more and more at the computer and stopped going out, kept playing actually until now, that’s pretty many years.

Since about 1-2 years ago I’ve noticed that the computer life is getting more and more boring and I’m just infront of the computer just cause it didn’t let me get any friends so I feel like I have absolutely nothing else to do, I have like 5 pretty good friends but we do nothing anymore, just communicate thru the computer and that’s it. I’ve read that people should seek help but that just feels very embarrasing and somehow I feel insecure about doing something about it yet, like almost scared as I’m not sure what to do. So nowadays I’m just at the computer as I have nothing else to do, feels boring to go out and do stuff alone. I’ve also noticed how this has changed my social skills. Although in school It’s alright, I talk with people and so on but after school I only socialise thru the computer. I still get good grades, It’s just that I haven’t got any social life. I ask myself “Why don’t I just ask someone in my class or some of the few old friends to go out and do something?” but I have like no idea what there is to do when I think about it, just walk around and talk? about what?

Hi,

There are places to go to talk about Internet addiction.

The hardest thing is to learn how to socialize yourself. The best thing for you would be to just immerse yourself into social activities and just roll with it. Stop going on the computer at all for like a week. You’ll have to hang out with people :)

Answer #2

Well where do you find people that want to socialize? most people seem to already have other people for that purpose.

Also, what kind of places are there to talk about it? and where?
