“How to “quit” smoking?”

You can’t “quit smoking”. You CAN “become a non-smoker”.

There is a big difference in the way your mind and body reacts to the two attempts. In “quitting smoking” your mind and body tell each other that you are trying to deprive it of something it likes and needs, therefore it works hard at preventing you from succeeding.

In “becoming a non-smoker” you successfully attain your goal while not giving your mind and body a chance to perceive that they are being deprived.

Along with the above attitude change, you can help achieve your goal by having on hand some hard candy. Whenever you feel the urge to smoke simply place a piece of candy in your mouth.

Don’t try to refrain from smoking “forever”. Simply refrain for the next couple of hours.

I, personally, know that the above works. I smoked for 30 years and was up to two packs a day. I successfully became a non-smoker 22 years ago. It wasn’t always easy and I still have nightmares that I’ve started smoking again and “blown” my smoke-free record but then I wake up and am thankful it was only a dream.

The candy I used was “Gobstopper” Jaw Breakers. The lasted about 10 minutes each and effectively replaced the craving for a cigarette.

You, too, can become a non-smoker, even if you’re surrounded by people who smoke. It is your choice. When offered a cigarette you don’t say “no thanks, I’m trying to quit” but instead state “no thanks, I don’t smoke”.

Good Luck!

you should really try to stop, its damages your body and everybody else including me! its 5% of the cause of global warming.

Answer #3

Parents almost always find out. trust me..I’ve been down that path before. hiding it is stressful and you’ll be way too paranoid. Just be honest with them. but listen to everyone else’s advice and TRY to stop smoking. im working on quitting as well :) funmail me if you wana talk about it.

Answer #4

If your folks dont smoke then they know already. Its such a strong unmistakeable smell.

I smoked for years. I’m off them now for 7 months. Trust me, there is nothing better that NOT smoking. I feel so much better. You should really quit before its too late.

Good luck

Answer #5

You should quit smoking. With everything we know about smoking today, there is no excuse or reason for smoking.

I have COPD (Emphysema). I got it from having radiation but I could have gotten it from smoking. Let me tell you…IT’S NO FUN!

I have no life. I have to use Oxygen 24 hrs a day. I have to use a machine called a nebulizer. I can’t walk 10 feet w/o getting out of breath. I can’t go outside except for when I have to go to the doctor because of pollen and other toxins. I’m 54 and all I think of is dying. Believe me, this is no life.

Don’t smoke.

Answer #6

Quit…while you’re ahead…

Seems kind of hypocritical coming from me…since I have smoked since I was 15, and I’m 57 now…aside from the damage it does to your body…(and I got to see that first hand, when MY mom passed away)…There’s a hell of a lot of damage to your wallet…it limits who you can date…and the addiction makes going anywhere that you can’t smoke (which is almost EVERYWHERE these days), a misery…

I agree with djwager. stopping smoking is the best plan of action. you’re only 15, smoking is going to jack up your growth. the last thing this world needs is another jacked up, misshapen smoker chick. contrary to popular belief, smoking doesn’t make you look cool or older…it just gives you rank breath and yellow teeth. and it’s expensive! where are you getting the money? spend it on something more enjoyable. anyways, that’s my thought. I bet you could got to your parents for help quitting, and rather than get pissed off they’d be grateful you came to them, and maybe even foot the bill for nicotine gum, or the patch, or whatever. either way, live the dream.

Answer #8

better tell them, its no use to keep it hidden too long or itll just build up. I had to pass this stage but I was too afraid to tell them (I was 17 when I told them) I had been smoking then for 2 years, so I kinda got in a row with my parents but it died down and now its legit

Answer #9

you may as well tell them also know that smoking causes all these things and more lung cancer bad breath premature ageing your face aging quicker yellow teeth tooth decay yellow nails trouble breathing clogging up you arteries with tar screwing up your fertility the thousands of dangerouse chemicals in every cigarette osteoperosis decresasing your life span raising your blood pressure and blood clots risk heart dissease/heart attacks so as well as tell them you may as well quit

Answer #10

like djwager has already said, it’s best if you really try to stop!!… you’ve gotta think of all the harm that ciggeretes do to your body, and come to your senes and stop!! I noe… that deep inside you probablly want to keep this situation away from your parents… but.. if stopping is becoming a problem for you… it’s best if you tell them, so they can help!! - sure they’ll be dissappointed and shocked at first. but since they’re family, they’re there to help!!

Answer #11

To be on the safe side, tell them so you can get it off your chest. Its never good to keep a secret like that from your parents. Yah, they might be mad about it but, at least they’re looking out for your health. Smoking cigarrets isn’t healthy and pluss, its harmful. You know, the lord doesn’t want us to put anything harmful in our boddies since he wants us to treat our bodies like temples. So, you’d better tell your parents and I would stop smoking if I were you. I’m only recomending this to you so its up to you.

Answer #12

It’s proven - a lot easier to stop while you’re young - hope you will for your sake…Take care !!

Answer #13

I wouldn’t bother to tell them, I would just go ahead and quit.

Answer #14

Answer #15
