Well for 18 years now we've spent Christmas day waking up, opening presents, having dinner with my nan and that's pretty much it. But the main part to it was spending the day with my nan. However, my nan has passed away and we don't want to do what we would normally because my nan won't be there.. My mum is saying we should all go for some picnic instead. "Let's do something different this year!". But we don't all really like the sound of having a picnic. What would you say is a good idea? She wants to make it a day to remember. Help would be appreciated!
What my family does every year is we watch "The Little Drummer Boy" together on Christmas Eve, usually pretty late on Christmas Eve. Then in the morning my Dad will wake my brother and me up and we will open all our presents and take pictures with the prettiest wrapped boxes :P Then we eat breakfast while watching another Christmas movie together and when my brother and I were younger we would play with all our new toys with my dad. XD Then the rest of the day is spent cleaning up the paper from the floor and watching more movies while eating left over Christmas Eve dinner. lol
Isn't it kind of cold outside for a picnic where you are? :o what if it rains ): I think having people over for Christmas dinner would be a fun thing that might help you guys feel the loss of your Nan less.

Well, change is good.. Especially when a tragedy has happened to a love one. Last year my father passed. So we changed the whole theme of our christmas last year. Maybe get a new tree? Spice things up with the dinner, like adding new things. A christmas party, invite new people to celebrate. Changing traditions is a good start. Good luck
Thanks for all the replies guys. But we want to have a Christmas dinner but this year everyone is busy with their half of the family. My mum doesn't want to really replace my nan at the dinner table she gets upset really easily over things like that. & Yes, it is way too cold for us to have a picnic!
I like the idea of a picnic. What about a place where you can take a short hike, do some bird watching or other outdoor activity and then have a picnic there? That way you'll keep your mind somewhat occupied as well.
