Children and adults who get healthy food do not need any supplemental vitamins at all. So if your kids have a balanced diet they don't need vitamins.
There's one exception: Babies born in wintertime who are not breast fed and who live in a place that has very short days should get supplemental vitamin D. Because the human body produces vitamin D on contact with ultraviolet light and a lack of vitamin D will cause a fault in growth of the bones. A severe lack of vitamin D can cause rickets (rachitis).
If you are not sure whether your kids get all vitamins they need, you can go to a doctor and ask for a blood test. If that test indicates any lack of vitamins, you can either start buying different food (food that contains the missing vitamins) of you can buy supplemental vitamins.
If you feel that your child is eating a nice variety of food and is growing well, most likely your child's getting enough vitamins and minerals without taking vitamin supplements, maybe even more so.
I favor a natural multi-vitamin for children when one is really needed. That way you're not getting dyes and synthetic vitamins. If you go for a doctor prescribed one, I'd personally avoid any vitamins with fluoride in them.
recommend waiting until children are at least four years old before giving them vitamin or mineral supplements (other than the vitamin D they already should be taking). also cautions that children between the ages of four and 12 should get no more than 50% of the adult RDA of the major vitamins and minerals, especially the fat-soluble ones (A,D,E, and K), from supplements. After age 12, kids can safely take the adult dosage.
I would ask the doctor to find out which one is best. Vitamins for kids are always good because even if they eat right and all there still could be something missing, you don't just get all the vitamins out of eating right. So next time you go to the doctor, you can ask him/her about it and maybe he or she can tell you what is best and if your kid needs them at all.
All children over 4 should take adult vitamins. under 4 should take childrens. Vitamins are always good to take.ask Ur doctor or pediatrician which vitamin he suggests. But basically have the same stuff in it. some have more Vitamin C...some have more zink... the childs doc will be able to tell the best,.
well these days we all don't get our daily doses of vitamins through the food we eat....so its always a good idea to take multivitamins to make sure u and ur children are getting the healthy doses everyday....we have our daughter on vitamins and they come in a gummy bear form for kids
Not sayin all children but just saying that they can take adult vitamins at the age of 4.. under 4 they take childrens. like the flinstones chewies. only wen the childs doc tells u its ok and wat kind. as i said
I find myself asking this same question too. I make sure I give my kids some sorts of vegies and fruits everyday and give them vitamins twice a week. I use Yummi Bears - Echinacea + Vitamins C and Zinc.
Aslong as your child has a balanced diet and is taking things in such as water and various foods such as vegetables etc then theoretically they should be getting the vitamins and minerals they need.
All children over 4 should take adult vitamins ...who told you that? Children that young require a lower dosage, and some vitamins and minerals can be harmful in adult doses.
I agree with this, especially the fluoride part as it can give children countless teeth problems if they get too much flouride.
Some of them, Vitamin A for example can be lethal if the doses are too high.
try to see what your child eats and what he or she is lacking
Bring them too a doctor would be best.
