Should I take my Canon to Sharm El Sheikh with me?

I have the canon 550D, its an expensive camera and i saved up a VERYY long time for it. I value it very much and i would hate to lose it, its also not insured. n Monday me and my sister and mum are going to Egypt for a week and its our first holiday all together without my dad and we need some new family pictures of the three of us. I have also heard that people will probably try to steal it or even worse things.. There is a safe in the hotel but id want to take it to the pool and stuff.. Should i take it? any ideas would help thanks :)

There are two views to this:

  1. If you bring the camera, there is a chance something will happen to it, so it’s best to leave it home.

  1. You bought the camera to use, and if you don’t bring it, what’s the point of even having it in the first place?

Personally, I’m one of those use it if you got it kind of people, but I also don’t create physical attachments to any material item … the question is, which one are you?

For myself, personally, I’d never take a very expensive item on a trip to another country. Especially not if I saved for it a long time. Surely it would take good pictures, but the fact still remains that it could get damaged, lost, or stolen. When you have a safe in a hotel room, you also have to keep in mind that you are not the only one who knows the combination.

Do you have any other cameras that you could take instead that would take good pictures? If you do, I’d say use one of those instead just to be safe.

See im actually all for taking it but its my mum whos advised me not to take it which is swaying my decision.

Answer #4

No, our other camera broke (thanks to my sister) and the only other one we have doesnt take good pictures tbh.

Answer #5

That’s the point I was going to to make. I’ve been advised not to take an expensive camera to Mardi Gras or Carnival but other than that I’d take my gear almost anywhere.
