Hang in there while we get back on track
xxxamethyst is right- it is earthquakes that cause the movement of the water that build to a tsunami. Not storms. Storms can however in some places cause storm waves and small tidal waves . Eg the east coast of britain- we can get storm winds that result in rather destructive large waves but no where near as bad as a tsunami
No. A tsunami is caused by the earth’s plates moving…AKA: Earthquake. Earthquakes that happen beneath the ocean are the culprits. The earth shifts, which causes the water to shift violently and build with the sudden change. It is then pushed toward shore, building as it comes.
You don’t have to worry about rain and thunder causing this :)
There are other ways to cause tsunami besides earthquakes. Volcanic eruptions or underwater nuclear explosions also have the force necessary to displace the overlying water, sending out shock waves. Or you could drop something large into a body of water, as from a landslide or a meteorite, which would send tsunami radiating outwards from the impact site.
The rain and thunder and lightening are harmless…except for the lightning.
