Can I get my child support?

My mom has been recieving child support from my father for most of my life. My mom doesn’t properly use the money though. I reciently turned 18 && want to know if it’s at all possible to have the supprot money transfered into my name instead of my mom’s.

Help??

I’m pretty sure whenever you turn 18, he can legally stop paying, as you are not a child anymore and are completely capable ot taking care of yourself. Your too old to be taking money from your dad anyways.

aerodude08 I wasn’t rude. I was telling the truth. In most cases, child support stops when you are 18 years old. As it should. You are well old enough to have a job to support yourself. Also, I haven’t taken a dime from my father since I was 15 years old. I have worked since I was 15, moved out when I was 18, and I am now working still with a son and a fiance. I work for my money thank you sir.

I hate when people are rude about their advice like the mandy girl that gave you advice…I bet she had her dad all her life…anyways I am also 18 and my mom has been getting chld support all my life…when I turned 18 I thought that we would stop getting it but now that I am in college I still get it and it come str8 to me. the child support agency told me and my mom that as long as I was in school he would have to pay it! so if you are still in school you will still get it in your name!

Once you turn 18 - the support stops.

Also, my guess is your mom puts the check in her bank account and probably used it to help with groceries, bills, and clothes.

As a mother receiving child support - as much as I’d like to put it in an account for my daughter, its just not possible - so it helps pay for her daycare, our groceries, etc.

After looking up Pa law I found that child supports stops when the child reaches the age of 18 or finishes high school, whichever comes later. You can not switch your child support payments to yourself.

There is no law in Pa saying that child support must continue if you go to college, unless there was a prior agreement between your parents and the courts.

I know that sometimes it can feel like your child support is going to things that your mom wants but try to remember that child support is there to give you food, pay for your electricity, water, mortgage or rent. Also to pay for your everyday needs (like clothes). It should not be spent directly on you but for you.

Good luck
