Why does the mayor want to ban popcorn and soda?

The mayor wants to ban popcorn and soda, because he says its unhealthy for the people, but the alcohol and cigarretes are even more harmful for the people and he never would ban that so if we have to ban something popcorn and sodas are the lesser of the evils. i would like to see the mayor banning the alcohol and cigarretes. What do you think? Tell me please thank you.

This made me smile. You have a smart mayor. I would be all for the banning of soda and popcorn, hell he should just ban corn syrup.. Look at it this way. Heres a story. Some guy molests and then kills a little girl. Right. And then another guy molests and kills a women. So, both have death sentence or something. Just because one is ‘technically’ worse than the other (the little girl, just cause shes a little girl), they should both be punished, regardless of which is worse. Catch me? Just because ciggarettes and alcohol are ‘technically’ worse doesnt mean nothing should be done at all. Your mayor is taking the first step towards fixing things, any is better than none. Maybe in time he’ll ban other things, who knows, but for now hes taking the first step down the right path. Good for you guys!

I think banning popcorn and soda is a bit of an extreme attempt at trying to keep people from making unhealthy decisions food-wise. I find it kind of ridiculous, actually. In my opinion, people should be able to eat what they like. If they consume things that affect their health, then that’s their problem. While people should be encouraged to eat more of some things, and less of others, I feel it’s wrong to dictate exactly what can and can’t be eaten. I mean, what would they ban next? Chips aren’t healthy either. Same with french fries. Popcorn and soda shouldn’t be singled out. It’s unfair for the people who actually eat responsibly.

Answer #3

How? Of they eat responsibly they shouldnt care anyways since they wouldnt eat these things? I think its brilliant

Answer #4

I feel you on this.. You cant control what someone eats, what someone comsumes is their choice.. I feel like once someone tells you what you can & cant eat, they’ll soon be telling you what weight you should be at, and how much food can be in one household at a time.. You gotta think about that, man..

Answer #5

I did. I still think its smart, though.

Answer #6

What I meant by eating responsibly is that there are people who will only eat chips or drink soda occasionally, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Anyway, this all is just my opinion. I don’t think it’s a brilliant idea haha, but that’s cool if you do.

Answer #7

It;s ridiculous to try and tell people what they can & can’t eat. This is the US! :)

Answer #8

I think this is a terrible idea. And not the first time I have heard it mentioned tho. I feel if “Joe” wants to eat food that is bad for him, and fall over dead from a heart attack at 50 - GO FOR IT!

the idea of controlling what people it is just for the power. It one more step of control. You don’t think people end up under dictatorships over night :P. Its gradual steps. Piling on more and more rules and control until you have a dictator.

Answer #9

Alcohol and tobacco will never be banned for several reasons.

  1. They are highly taxed and a great deal of revenue is brought in by them.
  2. The health care industry would lose trillions if people stopped smoking and drinking. 3.”The Man” doesen’t really want people to live long enough to retire, stop paying income tax and recieve social security because he already spent the money we’ve paid in and that system is in trouble.
  3. The DEA recieves their funding from alcohol and tobacco revenue, so “the man” don’t care what substance your using, rather “who’s” substance.
