What does it mean if a baby doesn't cry when it's born ?

when a baby doesn’t cry when it’s born it usually means they are not getting oxygen. This is why the doctor will slap the baby, to help it get that oxygen

It doesn’t mean anything except you could have had a calm birth or something, my brother didn’t cry when he was born and he is perfectly healthy, I would say a new born baby cries because it’s been taken out of the safety of its mothers womb, which is the only place it’s known all it’s life and put into an environment where its bright, cold and so many strange people around

doubt it means anything.. i didn’t cry when i was born at all.. infact i was the quietest baby ever my mum thought i was deaf lmao

It doesn’t mean anything, as long as the baby breathes and is otherwise healthy. My sons both didn’t.

It’s just, if a baby cries, then everyone in the room is definitely sure that the child started to breathe. Because they can’t cry if they can’t breathe. If the baby doesn’t cry, then the midwife/ doctor has to check whether they breathe.

Lack of cry at birth alone probably doesn’t mean that the baby is unhealthy, because other elements of the Apgar score may be totally normal. Elements like respiratory effort, heart rate, muscle tone, reflex irritability, and color are assessed at one and five minutes of life, and only if under 7 the score is considered not normal.

No there wouldn’t be anything wrong with you, sometimes a baby doesn’t get enough oxygen which you obviously have been getting so there’s nothing to worry about. :)

I was told by my mum that it means that there’s something wrong with the baby’s voice box stuff and if not immediately treated,the baby could be dumb

Lack of a strong cry at birth could mean depression from a difficult delivery, but other elements of the Apgar score would also be affected such as slow pulse, poor muscle tone, blue color, and lack of response when stimulated. Obviously these were not a problem with you.
