Dear ericka04, You may have a better chance at convincing them if you were married. Also if you both have good jobs and are living in a suitable area with schools etc. All of this in place they may feel you are ready. Don’t forget it takes a ton of responsibility to raise children so perhaps having A-1 credit, no dept. you don’t smoke or drink and you have desirable friends also would be something your parents look at and you don’t have a hectic social life. So I understand this sounds like a lot and sounds like…your life not fun but these are things of consideration when you have children. Sue…good luck

I believe there are many things to consider about this question. Not only the feeling of having a child, but the consequences (good or bad) of having a child at this young age that we both are. Stability: How stable is you and your boyfriend’s job? Do you make enough money to afford a child? a house/apartment? a well-working vehicle? enough money in the bank to start a college fund? enough emergency money? Time: Are you and your boyfriend capable of handling the time between each other for the baby? (i.e. most of the day devoted to the baby and not one another.) Future: Are you both sure that this decision will be good for the both of you in the long-run? Are you capable of devoting the next 18-2x years to your child and in turn not being able to do the things that you want to (back pack Europe, Caribbean vacation, college, the right job)? Health: Are you and your boyfriend in good physical condition where you may not need expensive medication throughout your life? Would you be capable of handling medical and medicine costs that they child may need in the future? Capable of affording quality health and dental insurance? If you do decide to go through with having a child, to the best of luck! I wish you both well!

I had 3 children by the time I was 21. A set of twins and a single. It is really you & your boyfriends decision to make, not your parents. You want to be young when raising children. You can grow w/them.

Wow…I’m in the same situation except I haven’t told my family. I turn 21 in 3 months and I want to have a baby too. I just don’t know what my family will think.

Answer #5

You are 21 now so it is your decision. I know that I wasn’t even close to being ready for kids at 21. Everyone is different though.
