So, I'm trying to figure out where I stand with the whole religion thing. Lately, I've been on reddit.com and I've been seeing all these posts on atheism, and they all make sense. I've sat down and talked with some of my friends who are self-proclaimed atheist, and everything they say makes sense. So I now find myself leaning more towards atheism. But, I honestly can't see how this world, how this universe began without someone, or something, starting it all up(i.e God). I know atheist believe in the Big Bang, or whatever, but there is no real proof, so the whole system of basing their "beliefs" on the facts kind of falls apart there.
So I'm just wondering is it possible to believe that a God created everything, but, for what ever reason, is no longer active. Because that is pretty much where I find myself right now....
PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A FIGHT, JUST ANSWER THIS QUESTION AND PLEASE BE ON YOUR WAY. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU DISAGREE WITH JUST IGNORE IT, PLEASE.
There will come a day where we will know the answer to our questions. maybe it will be the minute you die, maybe it will be judgement day, maybe it will be the day you complete your battle along The Dog Road and become a star in the galaxy as some Native American tribes believe. But until then each of us must choose the path of spiritual awareness that brings us peace in our souls. My way may not be your way and vice versa, but we must respect each others beliefs and not feed into religious superiority. It truly is up to God to sort it all out. we humans are underqualified for the job
Well if you're gonna say what created the universe,,.. What created god? I'm sure he didn't just appear. And if god didn't create the universe, then did it just spawn from nothing? If it did, then what is nothing? Is it an empty black space, a white space, a space we know nothing about? We can't answer any of these questions, and probably never will be able to. So the point I'm trying to make is live life, don't worry about religion, and if there is a god, all the un answerable questions will be answered when you die. Or you decompose in a hole,
I respect this question sincerely, but last time I checked it was against the Terms of Use to talk about religion. It's nothing bad or personal. I think they have that to prevent verbal arguments about religion. If you want to answer questions and lead yourself into the religion that best suits you, then perhaps seek the questions on your own, I wouldn't ask a whole community of people (most people (even here) don't know much about their religion, only what they are told). Saying that, I think atheists believe in no omniscient power.
Well yeah that doesn't prove your point or prove me wrong. My point still stands. Seeing as you 'dunno', I can infer you just say that to try to prove me wrong. Otherwise you would have provided an elaboration. As I said, If there is/was a God, he/she/it could not die. Unless it wasn't a God at all, and there is no actually explanation that would suffice for that actual scenario.
I dont see why not. Atheism takes various forms. Some people believe that the absense of belief in a deity is enough to be considered an atheist, while others believe you have to consciously not believe in the existence of a deity. There is also protest atheism, where you do believe in a deity but reject them. I dont think its a black and white sort of thing.
i believe in live and let live but it would be interesting to know if any of you atheists change your minds when you're on your death beds. not saying that to start a fight. i respect your belief. i just wonder if the awareness of approaching death ever changes people's minds?
First of all, people on reddit seriously have nothing better to do than make up believable lies. Trust me, I'm one of them. And no, it is not possible to convert to atheism and still believe in God. When you're atheist, you don't believe in anything.
Another point. There certainly is evidence of the big bang. The universe is expanding. Matter is normally attracted to matter so why would the matter of the universe be flying apart rather than together if it didn't start from an explosion?
If there is/was a God, he/she/it could not die. No matter in what you believe a God is omniscient. Unless it was not a God in the first place, but something less powerful and superior. Which, to me, doesn't really make sense.
You sound like a Deist. Deism teaches that there is a God that set the universe into motion with its laws of nature than has largely left it to run on its own without the creator's direction.
nope, there are people who believe god was there to create the earth and everything else but he was a mortal being with a longer lifespan or something.... i dunno, im an atheist :D
I suppose it's possible for one not saved to lose their faith along the way..but saved, you can't - your Salvation is eternal/secure....you have been bought/paid-for on the Cross.

What you're suggesting is Agnostic. They don't necessarily believe in anything with their full commitment, but they don't necessarily NOT believe in anything either.
That depends on how you define atheism. There are nearly as many definitions of what is atheism as there are atheists in th world.
No, being an atheist means you don't believe in a higher power. You could be agnostic, meaning you're not quite sure.
