Why do people become anorexic?

Answer #1

well, the girls that are self conscious about their weight but love food (I LOVE food!)are bulimic & anorexics dont like to throw up.

Answer #2

well it’s called a disorder for a reason, people are simply not thinking straight… when you boil it down it isn’t really about food, it goes deeper than that…

Answer #3

from what I understand, eating disorders are about control. the mind tricks the person into believing that controlling how she (or he) looks by way of how she eats will make up for her lack of control in all other areas of her life. this person will most likely be obsessive about excersize. Is very similar to drug addiction, gambling addiction, alcoholism, etc. people suffering from an eating disorder usually have to have professional help to recover, as it is a progressive disease. it has nothing to do with how much she likes or dislikes the taste of any specific foods.

Answer #4

Well…before I got it, I was constantly told I was fat…did nothing for my self esteem lol! xx

Answer #5

anorexia (anorexia nervosa) is a mental disorder— more of fear on foods… people get anorexic because of their upbringings or past experiences towards foods. some of them gets unpleasant perceptions on eating food (like “it will make me fat!” or “it will ruin my beauty”) thus, this fear on foods develops. and, coupled with it, there is a denial. denial that there is nothing wrong with them. so the consequencies: they stay away with food. makes their body thin. makes them malnourished.

we cannot understand them deeply why they develop such problems because we love food but then, I look at it like this scenario: some people gets afraid on spider and some dont. its really a matter based on our past experience or perceptions or upbringings towards the spider. saying: “I dont understand how someone could just not eat…its crazy…I couldnt do it because I love food! lol” is like saying “why do people gets afraid on spiders? I love spiders”

Answer #7

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes an eating disorder characterized by low body weight and body image distortion with an obsessive fear of gaining weight.

Answer #8

well, I just recently recovered from anorexia. I have severe depression, so I guess it sorta stemmed from that. my life was completely out of control at that time, so that was the only thing I could control. it also felt really good when you didnt eat for awhile. it felt like you accomplished something. I got waaayyy too thin, though. I wanted to look like a model, but now that I have 15 more pounds on me, I think I look better than I did when I was anorexic. so, to answer your question, most anorexics start out as just dieters(like I did) and then, go out of control. it really is a horrible disease. it gets into your brain and its a constant struggle to fight that voice everyday.
