Why don't animals live as long as we do?

it makes me cry when i think about my dog or budgie having a short life is this normal for a girl of 19?

Answer #1

Of course its normal for you to think about that. Everyone questions things about life itself. As for why theydont have a long life like us im not sure.

Answer #2

It all has to do with their size and how quickly the heart beats, and how often cells die.

Answer #3

It’s just how it is I guess. Why don’t we live hundreds of years like trees?

Answer #4

I guess that’s just the way of nature.

If you want a pet that is company for life, get a turtle (life expectation is 100 years for an American box turtle) or a gray parrot (life expectation is 50 - 80 years).

Answer #5

All animals die to make room for the next generation. Kids can be cuddly and cute but remember that they are here to replace us.

Parrots can live to 100 which is problematic since they can outlive their owners and since they bond for life they can become depressed and neurotic after loosing their owner.

Giant tortoises can live twice as long as humans. A few years ago a 250 year old giant tortoise died. That tortoise was alive before the US even existed. At the zoo I saw 2 giant tortoises copulating. Apparently with these animals this takes all day so I expect it lead to embarrassing questions from a lot of curious kids. Also, a whaler recently found a Victorian era harpoon in a whale they killed. The whale was harpooned then survived over a century before being harpooned again.
