It's simply because some people just don't know any better. They believe the stereotypes. When you're fed information through multiple sources like the media, it starts to become common belief and people start believing it as fact. Kind of like how people think everyone in Hawaii sits around in their grass shacks and drinks pineapple smoothies while dancing hula in coconut bras and grass skirts. 100% false.
Lol I know! I'm Canadian myself. I'm sure all Americans will hate me for saying this, but Americans tend to only learn and care about their own country patriotism and all, theirs being all "powerful" and such. I mean, we're pretty much their brother nation but they know nothing about us let alone other countries. Instead, they just resort to believing in stereotypes found in the media.
How did I forget the beer sterotype? I don't drink alcohol myself.
