18 is the age required, but If you are under-age, you can tell your parents or a guardian to call a hotel and make a reservation or go online and pay for your stay there. You (or your parents) can also pay for the venues or attractions the Hotel has to offer (Sometimes breakfast is free). As I recall, you might need a chaperon (If you are traveling with a group) to pay at the front desk. I am not sure if you do however need a parent at the check-out to pay there.
The usual age is 18 because that is the youngest you can legally sign a contract in most places.. A plethora of hotels in the USA require age 21 but that is because the rooms are equipped with a mini-bar that contains alcoholic beverages - the legal drinking age is now 21 in all of the USA. Go to the website call the hotel ans ask if you can legally rent one that doesn't contain any alcohol
