17 with braces!?

So, I am getting Braces in November, and I will be 17 by September. All of these 13 year olds are already having their braces on and off and then there is me. So, my mom and I talked, and being so old, I don’t want braces for a long time, especially for my boyfriends grad next spring, and mine the following year. My bite isn’t all that bad, honestly, my teeth basically need straightening. I looked around and found out it could take 1-6 months to straighten your teeth. Would the orthodontist allow me to take off my braces before my teeth are “perfect” and do you think it would cost extra? I want to take them off when I feel happy about my teeth, not when my bite is “perfect”. It might sound bad, but it’s hard to explain how I feel..

Answer #1

Well braces are really really expensive so taking them off before they’re meant to be taken off is a waste of money. I see full on adults and even old people with braces, so it’s not really a big deal. You could either do it now or do it in college or just live with crooked teeth. Up to you.

Answer #2

I had braces when 19, honestly a few years for perfect teeth for the rest of your life is nothing. If they take them off to soon your teeth will just shift back and theres 6 grand put to waste. Braces are cute and at 17 thats not even that bad. Be happy you can get them, I know people who are 25 and 26 who can only wish they were able to get them haha.

Answer #3

I’ve got an aunt who is in her 40’s and she’s actually got braces o.o I didn’t even know it was possible but yeah. Aha it’s just a few years :) it won’t be a problem really.

Answer #4

If you insisted on it, I’m sure your orthodontist will have no problem taking it out earlier for you. You will still end up paying the same amount, but less visits and less work for him/her! I agree with everyone though, if you take it out earlier, your teeth will shift. I had mine in for two years but it still shifted and so I had to get it redone. It will end up being a waste for you :/ and the payoff of a few years with braces on and nice teeth the rest of your life is not that bad! But to answer your question, yes if you asked for it, depending on who your orthodontist is, yes they will let you take it out early.

Answer #5

I wasn’t done writing :o anyways, so it’ll probably cost the same, but the outcome won’t be as good.

Answer #6

im 19 n will be 20 soon n i still have braces i have had them on for like 4 years now n my mom was older when she got hers ha like honestly no one cares i see alot of older people with braces plus braces look cute! ha like your not that old n if you teeth arent that bad then you shouldent have them on for long but you could talk to the orthodontist n see what he thinks n what he has to say n a estiment of how long you will have them on for

Answer #7

braces really dont look that bad, I was like 19 here with braces and still looked fine.

Answer #8

I’m 17 and had braces put on two weeks ago. I had the same worry as you, but now I like my braces (HA,only took two weeks) they make you look young. Also I think to improve your “bite” you need a “plate” or retainer, apparently they’re worse than braces XD
