Why do pregnant women have weird cravings when they're gregnant? Does it have anything to do with the baby or do they just use that as an excuse to eat up everything in the fridge?
I can promise you that when I was pregnant I didn't use my cravings as an excuse to eat everything in the fridge. The main thing I was craving with my first pregnancy was fruit...especially fruit salad. With my second pregnancy it was hot dogs, chilli and cole slaw, all together. And with my last pregnancy I absolutely had to have spaghetti, coleslaw and peanut butter mixed together. Believe me, no one would want to eat that unless their body is shouting at them to do it.
Pregnant women get cravings because their bodies are lacking vitamins or other essential nutrients. With my youngest child I also craved raw meat (never ate it though). I was anemic during that pregnancy.
They are definitely real...it's not an excuse! lol Like mandyloo said, it's caused by a lack of a certain vitamin that the woman is lacking due to the baby having the first grabs on all nutrients that enter her body!
I had a craving for a M&M McFlurry one night...nothing could get my mind off of it, my fiance had to run out in the middle of the night to get it for me, I couldn't even sleep because of it! It was worse than any other one I had my whole pregnancy! lol
And the reason a woman says she's eating for two is because all the nutrients from one meal goes straight to the baby, so your body needs a second serving so the woman can stay healthy too.
The cravigs are real. Usually it's the body cravings things that have something you are lacking (vitamins, minerals, etc).
I know when I was pregnant - my cravings took control sometimes.
